VOLUNTARY RECALL OF RXS AND RXE ROAD PEDALS
Posted: Oct 10, 2006

Time Sport International has detected a potential safety issue concerning automatic pedals for road cycles. This problem affects all TIME RXS and TIME RXE pedals shipped between 1 October 2004 and 21 June 2006. In certain cases, it is possible that the axle could become detached from the body of the pedal.

This is due to the combination of two phenomena:

- The differential expansion of the plastic material and aluminium when exposed to strong heat, (when transported in a vehicle or when exposed to heat in a window), resulting in thread torque loss;

- Yielding (deformation under strain over time) of the plastic material. After the initial loosening of the bushing on the body, and depending on the exertion of the cyclist, vibrations or the use of back-pedalling, there is a risk of the bushing working completely loose and the body detaching from the pedal axle.
This could create an imbalance and cause the cyclist to fall.

As TIME products should meet the highest quality standards, as a precautionary measure, and in the interests of putting the safety of the cyclist first, Time Sport International has decided to undertake a voluntary recall of the affected pedals.

Consumers must immediately stop using their cycles if fitted with one of these models and dismantle the pedals to return them in working order.

Download the information flyer about the recall.
